CreativiTek Wins 'Technology Award' at the 12th Annual Australian Road Safety Awards

Whilst parents and family members are the key providers of road safety education for young children, most children’s road safety education programs that are mainly provided by schools, early childhood services, health services, and community organisations are child-oriented. Direct targeting of families for children's road safety education has been a very limited strategy. Moreover, recruiting parents for children's road safety education is a challenge.

On social media, augmented reality (AR) is a fairly new tool that helps create immersive, interactive, and playful experiences for different purposes, education and awareness raising included. The popularity of social media augmented reality experiences are growing rapidly and the main social media companies like Meta (formerly Facebook), Snap, and TikTok have created their own augmented reality development platforms to enable developers to create immersive, interactive, and shareable experiences for social media users. Previous research supports the use of augmented reality for educating children.

In this ACT Government-funded project, we employed augmented reality technology to actively engage parents and educate children aged 6-9 in the ACT region on road safety. Our approach involved effectively utilizing both social media AR and app-based AR platforms, leading to the successful achievement of our goals. Please take a moment to watch the video highlighting this project, and for further insights, we invite you to click HERE to access the dedicated Case Study section on our website, where you can explore more about this impactful initiative.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our incredible funders, sponsors, and supporters whose unwavering dedication and generous contributions have made this project possible. The resounding success of this endeavor would not have been achievable without the invaluable support of the ACT Government, Kidsafe ACT, 3Doodler, and South.Point Tuggeranong.
